Every now and then we all keep saying I was like this in my teens or childhood and that time has changed us. most of you will agree with this, but just hold on and answer honestly is it time that has changed us or we on our own have lost ourselves? When we introduce ourself , we talk about our designation, our education,our experience and also feel proud referring to various roles and capacities we have worked in.How many of us introduce our real self? Very few, for most of us are happy associating with the different roles we perform.
We are not even aware about our specific habits. Recently a friend of mine looked at my handwriting and pointed out that the way I write alphabet -g; it resembles a snake. I actually laughed at the observation and then after a couple of days while making notes during a training session I realized that yes the way I write g, it does resemble a snake. This made me think how ignorant I am about myself. I must have being writing it this way for long but never bothered to look at the handwriting. This is only a small thing; there are so many things about our self that we are not aware about. We have always been comfortable knowing us from others or outside and have lost the original I, me.
Most of you would say, how it matters whether I know myself or not. So long, I am successful professionally, I have a luxury life, a big pay cheque and power to buy, everything else is irrelevant.
This is the beginning of the problem, which we are ignorant about. Why is it so that in spite of all comforts we do not get sound sleep, we do not have free time, we can’t enjoy our meals and we are not connected with our family members also. The diseases due to stress and other psychological problems, which are very common these days, are because of the rat race. Many a times we compromise what we want with what we have to do.
It is all about setting the priority; if I want, I can manage to spend time with myself. Moreover, trust me it is not want but must. Spending time on oneself is a need. It helps in introspection, becoming a better person and a source of joy, because it is good to observe one. How we speak, what we speak, how we smile, do we smile, how we react, how we conduct is very important for each of us .How often have we taken out time for our hobby, for ourselves. Those who spend time on their hobby never get tired even if it may require physical activity. Practicing hobby is actually therapeutic, it recharges us.
Successful people follow this as a habit; they plan it in their planner. Most of them start their day by being in their own company.
We will appreciate and value our relationships, our responsibilities, the various roles that we perform only when we are happy with ourselves, only when we identify who we are from inside.
Life is a precious gift of God, which should be enjoyed the way it is meant to be enjoyed.
The COVID-19 crisis has given us an opportunity to slow down, look at our life from a different perspective and most important to spend time with ourselves and bring back the original self that we all love and miss.
